On the Greek-Macedonian border the Idomeni refugee camp at its peak sheltered 13,000 refugees and migrants. With the closure of the “Balkan route” and no information from EU countries, families from war-torn countries such as Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan settled-in.
As the refugee bottle-neck grew the squalid conditions lead to frustration and protests while the spring rains turned the fields into mud.
